Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - 18 October 20th, 2000) was an American actor and singer whose career spanned more than 40 years. A torch singer renowned for her sultry, languid contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her performance of "Cry Me a River" that she premiered in her debut album. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 for her part in Emergency! as nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her first professional job was as an actress , while she was an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's acting career of 35 years began with film in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in several westerns. In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. The final album of her studio was released in 1969. Her success continued as the female star role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her former husband Jack Webb.
