Lee Roy Selmon's tale combines football scholarships for his family as well as service to his community. The first is his family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children in a Eufala farm. He was also one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were all All-America. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. He won two championships and 31-1-1 during his three years as Oklahoma's main man. In 1975, he received his third scholarship and was named an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Fourth-year service in the college Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. After college, he moved to Tampa and played for nine years with Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. The first job he had was an Account Relation Officer at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young males. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993, as Associate Director of Sports. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave their Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
